DUBROVNIK |
Surrounded
by thick walls and towers, Dubrovnik is the most precious
jewel of the Adriatic coast. The Old town – Dubrovnik
is, at the same time, a treasure trove of architecture,
as well as a work of art that has been kept and preserved
jealously for centuries. For the same reasons, Dubrovnik
has become a town protected by UNESCO, as a world heritage
site. Dubrovnik lived its “Golden days” during 15th
and 16th century, therefore most of the historical monuments
in the old part of the town remind us of those glorious
days. Walking through the old part of the town and Stradun,
visiting the Franciscan Monastery, known for the Europe’s
oldest pharmacy, an impressive, 2 kilometers long, city
walls and many other significant monuments, will make
you enjoy the atmosphere of this unique town. |

VILLAGE IN THE PAST |
Take
the opportunity to return in the past, get the feeling
of the old way of living in a traditional Dalmatian
village, and see the old stone block houses typical
for old Dalmatian architecture. Sit by the open fireplace,
called “komin”, the most important place for any household
in rural Dalmatia. You can poke the fire and drink homemade
grappa and housewine, taste homemade smoked ham, bacon,
sausages and salted sardines. Eat the homemade bread
and specialty “soparnik” made in front of you, which
recently gained a title “Croatian brand“, because it
originates from this region. Visit the village with
old Dalmatian architecture style, houses made in stone
blocks, see other fireplaces and wine cellars, tools
they used to work on the fields, learn about the life
of people who had to fight to survive on this poor soil. |

the city of Split you’ll find yourself in one of the
oldest Mediterranean cities. Split used to be a summer

295 A.D and lasted until 305 A.D. During the 5th and
6th centuries the Palace became a dwelling object with
over 2600 people that lived there, until the end of
the 19th century. Today, its cellars have been transformed
into exhibition areas, and the open square of the monumental
Palace have become attractive summer stages for cultural
events. Sightseeing tour of Split includes the Diocletian’s
Palace (the ancient cellars, Peristil, Jupiter Temple
and the Cathedral of St. Domnius with its bell tower).

SOLIN - KLIS - TROGIR |
Ancient
Roman Salona is the largest archeological site of Roman
and Early Christian ruins in Croatia. At the time of
Salona's greatest prosperity (3rd and 4th century),
it had 40,000 inhabitants, while Split did not even
exist. Archeologists have excavated remains of temples,
amphitheatres, early Christian churches, burial grounds
and baths. We can certainly say that this is the most
important excavation sight from the Roman times in Croatia.
Klis is a village in central Dalmatia, located close
to Split. It is known for its famous fortress that used
to be a symbol of Croatian resistance, during the time
of Turkish breach. In 9th century, Klis was headquarter
of Croatian’s dukes and kings, so was considered as
the capital of Croatia. We continue towards Trogir,
a small town, under the protection of UNESCO. Trogir
was on the site of a former Greek settlement of Tragurion,
that exalts us today with its historical monuments which
stand there like an evidence of its rich past. One of
the most important monuments, that we shall visit, are
the St. Lawrence Cathedral with its famous portal, made
by local master Radovan, City Loggia, Ćipiko palace
and the Town Hall. |

MEDJUGORJE |
Medjugorje
("between the hills") has become well known
in Bosnia-Hercegovina, and the world, because of six
young people who claim to have seen visions of the Blessed
Virgin Mary. Beginning on June 24, 1981, the Blessed
Mother appeared to, and later told the visionaries,
God sent her to our world to help us convert our hearts
and lives back to Him. Our Lady's call is one of Peace,
Love, Faith, Conversion, Prayer, and Fasting. We are
each challenged to answer Our Lady's call to change
our lives, and hearts back to God. The following links
to 100+ documents of information, interviews, and testimonies
provide a well rounded, and accurate account and perspective
of one of the greatest events in modern history. |

CITY OF MOSTAR |
The
city of Mostar is situated in a beautiful valley bedded
between high mountains of Herzegovina. It is thanks
to the river Neretva that Mostar was able to develop
as a city in the desert-like landscape of Herzegovina.
Neretva’s size turned Mostar very early in to a trading
centre of the region. What makes this city known is
it’s famous bridge. The Old Bridge was built by the
Ottoman empire in 1565. It was the great architect Mimar
Hajrudin who had succeded with the impossible mission
to cross the Neretva river with a single span stone
bridge.
Mostar got its name after that same Bridge, or more
precisely after the bridge keepers. They used to guard
the bridge and were called "Mostari", thereby
the city got its name. Mostar’s population in 2003 was
105,448. With its hot summers and mild winters, Mostar
is also one of Europe’s sunniest cities. |
